WWE NXT Review – October 3, 2023
Kicking off this week’s NXT with a recap of No Mercy.
Women’s Champion Becky Lynch made her entrance & say her NBexT catchphrase before she also gloated about still being the Women’s Champion. She did also note that she’s not medically cleared to compete today. Lynch notes that she also made sure that Tiffany Stratton wasn’t medically cleared today due to both she and her beating the ever living piss out of each other.
Lynch said every time she steps in the ring she wants to give it everything she has as well as her opponent doing the same. Lynch said Stratton did just that. Lynch said when she won the Women’s Title she wanted to take the Women’s Title to heights it has never seen before. She said she wants to defend it everywhere she goes. She said she looked at the calendar and saw that the next big NXT event is Halloween Havoc. Lyra Valkyria made her entrance.
Valkyria noted that when Becky Lynch made her NXT debut it was the 1st NXT episode she watched. She said she saw an Irish Girl in the ring which caused her to start training in wrestling that same week. Valkyria talked about how much of a role model Becky was to Ireland. She said she was at a big Irish indie show and a picture of Becky Lynch showed up Valkyria said that really hit her.
Valkyria said things got bigger when Lynch main evented WrestleMania. Lyra said her dreams came true recently when she stood side by side with Lynch a few weeks ago but it would be bigger if they can stand face 2 face. Indi Hartwell made her entrance. Hartwell talks about how she won the Women’s Title at the biggest Stand & Deliver of all time but had to relinquish it due to injury. Hartwell said since Lynch can wrestle on 2 shows a week, Hartwell can as well.
Hartwell said NXT will always be home where they watched Hartwell grow up. Hartwell noted she also got married in NXT. Hartwell said she’s coming for the Women’s Title she never lost. Roxanne Perez made her entrance & Perez said a few weeks ago, Lynch told Perez to rest up in the back but she didn’t want to. She said she respects Lynch very much which is why she’s out to look her dead in the face that she wants her Women’s Title back. Perez said she’s taking the Women’s Title back at Halloween Havoc.
Lynch said everyone makes a good point but they can do a little less talking and a little more talking. Lynch said they can all wrestle in a Triple Threat to see who will face Lynch for the Women’s Title at Halloween Havoc.
We get a hype package of the 2023 Women’s Breakout Tournament which introduced the wrestlers in the tournament before a graphic bracket graphic aired.
North American Champion Trick Williams & Dominik Mysterio were shown in different shots arriving to the Performance Center from earlier today.
Tag Team Match
British Strong Style (Tyler Bate & Butch) vs. Gallus (Wolfgang & Mark Coffey)
Butch hits Mark Coffey with a shoulder tackle early on before Joe Coffey distracted Butch, which allowed Wolfgang to give him a lariat on the apron then Gallus traded quick tags to keep the numbers advantage on Butch while isolating him from Tyler Bate.
Butch drags Wolfgang to the center of the ring to torture Wolfgang with joint manipulation and an elbow stomp then Tyler Bate tags in to give Wolfgang a double elbow stomp before Wolfgang kept his weight low to block an Helicopter Spin.
Bate hit Wolfgang with a shoulder tackle. British Strong Style hits Wolfgang with stereo dropkick to dump him to ringside then they hit Coffey with double wishbone finger breaks. British Strong Style then hit Wolfgang with a stereo Bop and Bang as we go to a break
After the break Gallus cut the ring in half on Bate back from Bate then Joe managed to get cheap shots in when the referee was distracted. Bate managed to slam Wolfgang to the mat and hit Mark with a Koppu Kick.
Butch tags in and hits Gallus with enzuigiris. Butch hits Mark with multiple Gamengiris. Butch then gave Mark a Shining Wizard. Butch gave Mark 20 Beats Of The Bodhran in front of his brother Joe. Butch then gave Joe a plancha.
Mark recovered and caught Butch with a leg lariat before Butch hits Mark with an X Plex then Bate dizzied Wolfgang with an airplane spin after Wolfgang stumbled to ringside Butch hits him with a Triangle Moonsault.
Bate hit Mark with a rebound lariat then Bate hit Wolfgang with a top rope clearing dive follow by Butch hit Mark with a Buzzsaw Kick before British Strong Style hits Mark with a double Tyler Driver 97 to get the win.
Winners: British Strong Style
After the match Joe quickly ran in the ring to beat down British Strong Style before Ridge Holland ran out to even the numbers. Bate, Butch & Holland clears Gallus from the ring to stand tall.
Lyra Valkyria was shown doing pushups in the women’s locker room.
The camera then cut to NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov walking in the hallway.
Roxanne Perez was shown doing resistance band bicep curls in the locker room…
NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov made his entrance & he said tonight you can welcome Ilja as the Mad Dragon, Cezar or Unbesiegbar but ultimately you can welcome him as NXT Champion. Dragunov said that Carmelo Hayes brought the fight at No Mercy and pushed Dragunov beyond his limits again again and again. Dragunov said he’s barely able to stand but I stand. He said he stands as NXT Champion. He said he promised he’ll fulfill his destiny push the NXT Title beyond any level of energy and turn the NXT Title into a symbol of uncomparable passion.
He said he’ll protect that promise with his life. Ilja then said long live the Tsar before North American Champion Trick Williams made his entrance & he congratulated Dragunov on winning the NXT Title at No Mercy. Williams said he’s out there because somebody else also won a title at No Mercy because Trick Williams is standing here as North American Champion. Williams told Dragunov thank you.
Williams said at Heatwave Dragunov took Williams to another level. Williams said the Trick you see here today is because of Dragunov. Williams said he appreciates that. Williams said he has gold now and he can only go up from here. Dragunov said he’s proud of Williams and at No Mercy Williams whooped dat Trick. Williams & Ilja then shared a few daps. Carmelo Hayes made is entrance. Hayes wondered if he was slippn’ a bit before he said he appreciated the kind words from Dragunov.
Hayes asked Williams why he’s thanking Dragunov because Hayes was the one who’s been telling Williams that he’s championship material and has the heart of a champion. Hayes said he’s proud of Williams. He said he & Williams came up together in front of all these people. Hayes said winning the championship is one thing but defending it is a different level. Williams wondered if Hayes was saying Trick was not ready for Mysterio. Hayes mumbled a bit. Dragunov asked Hayes What do you mean?. Dragunov said this segment was supposed to be a discussion between champions.
Williams tried to get words in. Hayes cut in and said that if Trick wants to follow in Hayes’ footsteps as a proud North American Champion he needs to focus on Mysterio. Dominik Mysterio then made his entrance and said Williams should listen to Hayes because winning a title and defending it are 2 different things. Williams cut in and asked Mysterio if he always takes orders from Mami.
Mysterio said not to worry about what Mami said because Dirty Dom is all man. Williams said Mysterio always talk about what Mami say. Mami say this, Mami say that, Mami say mama sa mama coosa because Mami say Trick Williams bout to whoop dat ass tonight. Mysterio said he promised Mami he’s bringing back the gold to Mami & Judgment Day. Hayes noted that Williams better be careful because Dom doesn’t roll alone. Melo said he has Williams’ back tonight. Williams & Hayes fist bumped.
Mysterio said now that Williams’ a champion is he still in Hayes’ shadow. Williams told Hayes I know you my dog but I have to decline. Williams said he won the North American Title by himself and tonight he’ll defend the North American Title by himself. Williams said tonight he’ll whoop this trick in Mysterio.
A replay aired of Indi Hartwell winning the Women’s Title at Stand & Deliver aired as well as a replay of Hartwell relinquishing the Women’s Title on a NXT episode.
Women’s Title #1 Contenders Triple Threat Match
Lyra Valkyria vs. Indi Hartwell vs. Roxanne Perez
Roxanne Perez got a jackknife for a two count on Lyra Valkyria then Indi Hartwell came in and gave both women body slams then Hartwell gave Perez a draping boot. Hartwell then gave Valkyria a draping strike for a two count.
Hartwell hits Perez with a delayed vertical suplex for a two count then Perez rolls up Hartwell with a jackknife for a two count. Perez sent Hartwell to ringside with a hurricanrana.
Valkyria gave Perez a roundhouse followed by a dropkick before Hartwell caught Valkyria’s dropkick. Valkyria sends Hartwell to the steps before Perez hits Valkyria with a suicide dive then Hartwell nails Perez with a Yakuza Kick as we go to a break
Perez hits Hartwell with a crossbody and hits Valkyria with a dropkick to send both women into opposite corners. Perez gave both women uppercuts. Perez hits Valkyria with a Russian leg sweep for a near fall.
Perez works on Hartwell with 10 punches in the corner as Hartwell tried to escape but took a hurricanrana from Perez. Perez hits Hartwell with a Victory Roll for a near fall. Hartwell escaped a sleeper by slamming Perez on the turnbuckle.
Perez came back with a seated senton and overhead blows then hits Hartwell with a forearm. Valkyria caught Hartwell & Perez with a missile dropkick out of nowhere. Valkyria hits Hartwell & Perez with Yes Kicks. Valkyria hits Hartwell with a hook kick combo.
Perez blocks Lyra’s crescent kick and pushed it into Hartwell. Valkyria hits Perez with a northern lights suplex for a near fall. Hartwell held on to Valkyria’s foot to prevent her from hitting Perez with a Frog Splash. Perez recovers and brawls with Valkyria to the top after Hartwell fell to the mat.
Perez paint brushed Valkyria with slaps. Perez hit Valkyria with a Frankensteiner. Hartwell slams Perez to the mat for a near fall. Valkyria rolls up Hartwell for a near fall then Hartwell sends Valkyria to ringside with a big boot.
Perez reversed a tackle into Pop Rocks then Kiana James pulls Perez to ringside before Becky Lynch drops James with a big boot as Valkyria hits Hartwell with a Frog Splash for the victory.
Winner & #1 Contender To The Women’s Title: Lyra Valkyria
After the match Lyra Valkyria & Becky Lynch faced off in the ring before #1 Contender Tegan Nox made her entrance to make it known that she’s #1 contender and will be getting the 1st Women’s Title shot next week on Raw.
Bron Breakker met with Carmelo Hayes backstage. Breakker said he knows how Hayes feels right now. Breakker said when Melo lost the crowd immediately cheered for Ilja Dragunov. No more Melo chants. Breakker said he knows this is bothering Hayes all that frustration all that rage. Breakker said to take it from the most dominant NXT Champion.
Breakker said Hayes should take all that rage and anger and unleashed it on everyone including Williams. Hayes told Breakker to leave Trick Williams outta this. Breakker asked Hayes where was Williams on Saturday? Was he in Gorilla to tell Hayes everything’s alright? No, Hayes had to find Williams. Breakker told Hayes to think about it.
Ilja Dragunov had just gotten his personalized plates screwed into the NXT Title before Baron Corbin shows up to confront Dragunov. He brags about taking down Bron Breakker and how nothing stands in his way for the NXT Title. Dragunov said he disagrees. Corbin said Dragunov should take the NXT Title to the photographer to take as many shots as possible of Ilja with the NXT Title because he’s not holding the NXT Title for that much longer.
Gigi Dolan vs. Blair Davenport
Gigi Dolin attacks Blair Davenport while she was posing to her laser lights then Dolan tossed Davenport to ringside then the bell rang once both women were standing in the ring.
Dolin yanks Davenport against the ropes and gave Davenport a dropkick for a near fall but Davenport recovers and gave Gigi a double stomp to the tailbone for a near fall.
Davenport works on Dolan’s lower back with knees and a kick. Davenport gave Dolan another double stomp to the lower back for a near fall.
Dolan trips Davenport and gave Davenport a sliding forearm before both women traded forearms in the center of the ring. Dolan blocks a kick and gave Davenport a dragon screw before Dolan dumps Davenport to ringside.
Davenport slams Dolan on the announce table then Dolan dodged a chair shot and tossed Davenport in the ring. Dolan rallied with lariats in the ring. Dolan caught Davenport with a Question Mark Kick for a near fall.
The referee prevented Dolan from hitting Davenport with a chair but Davenport stole the chair and the referee tried to take it from Davenport so Dolan rolls up Davenport for the win.
Winner: Gigi Dolan
After the match Blair Davenport chokes the ref a bit then yells that this wasn’t over.
A replay aired of Roxanne Perez defeating Tiffany Stratton June 7th of last year to win the Women’s Breakout Tournament.
McKenzie Mitchell tried to interview Kiana James but James was distracted on her phone. She then got off the phone and mentioned how she didn’t want to give Perez another chance at getting a championship. James noted that Perez won the Women’s Breakout Tournament last year but she was also in it. James said people remember Perez as NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion but forget that James was also a NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion. James said if Perez can beat her hired gun she can get James in the ring. James noted that Perez will face Asuka next week on NXT.
Lola Vice, Dani Palmer, Kelani Jordan, Ariana Grace, Jaida Parker, Jakara Jackson, Karmen Petrovic, Kelani Jordan & Izzi Dame were all lined up on the ramp as competitors in the 2023 Women’s Breakout Tournament.
Quarter Final Match Of The 2023 Women’s Breakout Tournament
Kelani Jordan vs. Izzi Dame
Kelani Jordan dominated with arm wrench moves but Izzi Dame came back with a shoulder tackle. Dame lowers her weight to block a sunset flip. Jordan gave Dame a shoulder tackle. Dame came back with a running knee for a two count.
Dame blocks a crossbody and gave Jordan a body slam then Dame gave Jordan shoulder tackles in the corner. Dame gave Jordan a backbreaker. Dame puts Jordan in a chinlock. Jordan fought out with elbows but was immediately slam back to the mat.
Dame works on Jordan with a backbreaker rack before Jordan rolls up Dame to break the rack. Jordan dodges Dame and trips her into the rope. Jordan hits Dame with a Tiger Feint armdrag. Jordan then hit Dame with a dropkick.
Jordan hits Dame with a crossbody for a two count. Izzi escaped an Overdrive attempt and gave Jordan a big boot for a near fall. Jordan dodges Dame and hits her with a slingshot dropkick before Jordan hits Dame with a split legged moonsault for the win.
Winner: Kelani Jordan
Selfie of the new Thea Hail was shown on Twitter.
Chase U were looking over that picture in the hallway then they approached Hail & Jacy Jayne to ask if they can support Hail at ringside but she refused. Jayne said it might be a good idea actually. Jayne then led them in a Chase U chant. Duke Hudson was surprised while Andre Chase looked weary at Jayne’s actions.

Tag Team Match
Jacy Jayne & Thea Hail vs. Lola Vice & Elektra Lopez
Match starts off with Thea Hail hits a side headlock takedown and armdrag before Elektra Lopez blocks a armdrag into a body slam. Lopez got a two count off an elbow drop then Lola Vice tags in.
Lopez hit Hail in the back. Vice hit Perez with a Cyclone Kick before Vice hits Hail with an Axe Kick then puts Hail in a headlock but Hail escaped with a snapmare. Hail trips up Vice but Vice cuts off Hail at the pass from a tag.
Lola missed a corner splash so Hail boots Vice away and tags in Jacy Jayne & she hits Vice with a kick and forearm combo. Jayne hits Vice with a back tackle and neckbreaker for a two count. Vice escaped a fireman carry and knocked down Jayne with a spinning back chop.
Lopez tags in as Jayne sent Lopez into the corner and slams Lopez to the mat then Hail tags in and put Lopez in Kimura for the submission win.

An interviewer caught up with Carmelo Hayes in the parking lot and asked him if he’s going to take Bron Breakker’s advice? Hayes said he isn’t and in fact he requested a match with Bron Breakker next week. He said he just got off the phone with John Cena & he gave him advice. He noted that Cena lost the title 16 times and came back up. Hayes said that John Cena is going to be in Hayes’ corner next week.
North American Title Match
Trick Williams (c) vs. Dominik Mysterio
Trick Williams dominated early on with a striking combo into a pop up uppercut then Dominik Mysterio retreats to Rhea Ripley at ringside heading into picture in picture.
After the break Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions Finn Balor & Damian Priest showed up at ringside which allows Mysterio to hit Williams with a back suplex due to the distraction then Mysterio hits Williams with a Flying Jalapeño.
Williams escaped a headlock and rallied with elbows to the gut. Mysterio gave Williams a power Irish whip into both corners. Mysterio did the shimmy and hits Williams with a slingshot senton for a near fall. Mysterio used his knee to choke Williams on the 2nd rope.
Mysterio works on Williams with rope assisted boots then hits Williams with 2 of 3 Amigos. Williams blocks the 3ed Amigo and hits Mysterio with a neckbreaker. Williams hits Mysterio with a Crescent Kick but Williams reversed a crossbody into a powerslam.
Williams hits Mysterio with Book End for a near fall. Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley tossed the Women’s World Title and distracted the referee as Mysterio hits Williams with a DDT Williams on the Women’s World Title then goes for the cover but Williams kicks out at two.
Mysterio gave Williams a small package for a two count. Mysterio kept Williams on the mat with strikes. Mysterio dialed it up with a catapult and hits Williams with 619. Williams blocks Frog Splash with his knees. Williams hits Mysterio with a running flying knee.
JD McDonagh runs in and gets dump to ringside by Williams as the referee prevented Williams from hitting Williams with Priest’s Mr Money In The Bank briefcase. Finn Balor hits Williams with the Raw Tag Team Title then Mysterio follows up with a Frog Splash for the win.
Winner & New North American Title Match: Dominik Mysterio (NEW CHAMPION!!!!)
After the match Judgment Day celebrated in the ring while JD McDonagh was grinning at ringside.
We get Paul Heyman cutting a promo. Heyman hypes up Carmelo Hayes & Bron Breakker renewing their feud next week. Heyman noted that Hayes is accepting advice from the 2nd greatest of all time John Cena. Heyman said that’s the same Cena that is getting involved in Bloodline business. Heyman said the Bloodline must reciprocate to Cena’s actions.
Heyman said Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns has bestowed upon Heyman the task and privilege of providing wisdom to Bron Breakker. He said he’s not doing it through TV, telephone or long distance but in person. Heyman said he’s going to be in Bron Breakker’s corner next week to close out this week’s NXT.
