Last weekend, Zelina Vega fueled rumors and speculation on social media by posting a tweet with only a red X emoji, which you can see below. The tweet was sent the morning after WWE Payback, just hours after the announcement of CM Punk’s AEW release.

Vega recently spoke with Newsday’s Alfonso Castillo and was happy to clarify the cryptic tweet, which many saw as a nod to Punk because “it means Iโ€™m Straight Edge and Straight Edge means Iโ€™m better than you,” as Punk has said in the past. While Vega claims she was not referring to Punk’s pro wrestling future, she isn’t afraid to bring it up.

โ€œI wish him the best,โ€ she said. โ€œWould it be great to see him again? Absolutely.โ€

Vega went on to say that the red X represented her LWO stablemate, 2023 WWE Hall of Famer & United States Champion Rey Mysterio, and his son, WWE NXT North American Champion Dominik Mysterio. The tweet was sent out just hours after Mysterio defeated Austin Theory in the ring at WWE Payback.

โ€œRey had this jacket on during our entrance, and he put a big, red โ€˜Xโ€™ on Dominikโ€™s face, because his face was on the jacket,โ€ Vega explained. โ€œAnd that became the thing โ€” putting a big, red, โ€˜Xโ€™ on Dominikโ€™s face. So that was something we were going to run with.โ€

Vega spoke more about Punk, saying their relationship has always been wonderful.

โ€œI donโ€™t know much about his situation with AEW, but I have always had a fantastic relationship with CM Punk,โ€ she said. โ€œYou hear all these things about him. I am so big on not listening to other peopleโ€™s experiences, the dirt sheets, all that crap.โ€

Vega stated unequivocally that she would welcome Punk’s return to WWE for “so many reasons,” including “not just for me, but for the fans.”

โ€œHeโ€™s always been a fantastic person,โ€ Vega continued. โ€œThereโ€™s layers to people. And when people are just so hung up on the outer layers of what a person can be, you get stuck there. And if you want to stay there, thatโ€™s great. But when you get to know the core of a person, thatโ€™s where I like to hang out.โ€

Vega publicly defending Punk after his AEW release comes three years after he did the same for her in an interview with Renee Paquette for her Oral Sessions podcast, which followed Vega’s temporary WWE release in 2020.

โ€œTo me, Punkโ€™s been nothing but great,โ€ Vega said. โ€œSo will the โ€˜Xโ€™ be meaning putting an โ€˜Xโ€™ on Dominikโ€™s face, and CM Punk? It absolutely can be, because, Iโ€™m a big supporter of him. And heโ€™s always been that way for me.โ€
