WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque appeared on the Flagrant podcast to discuss various topics, including his storyline with Stephanie McMahon on television.
Triple H said, โOriginally, itโs just supposed to be a one-off thing. Itโs supposed to be this one-off thing that makes us have the match. I go over. I get my world title shot, she moves on, does the rest of the stuff with the Test thing.โ
On Vince McMahon pitching Stephanieโs heel turn:
โVince comes to me and heโs like โWhat if she, like, what if the worst possible thing happens, is like she turns on me?โ We have this match at pay-per-view, right at the moment where holy s**t, Vince might actually do this and beat Triple H, and who turns on him but his own daughter to join his worst enemy at the time?’โ
On how Stephanie adapted to turning heel:
โAs this happens, I donโt know Steph at all โ sort of. I donโt, and the thing is, sheโs a sponge for the business, right? Steph is like, she wants nothing but to be in this business, right? When I make that small list of people on one hand, that get it? Sheโs one of them.โ
On how a relationship blossomed between the two:
โIโm talking to my mom one day on the phone and sheโs like โWhatโs going on between you and that Stephanie?โ I said โWhat are you talking about?โ and sheโs like โI donโt know. Like, youโre not that good of an actor.’โ
On how they adjusted to dealing with Vince McMahon:
โWe try, and I honestly think at that pointโฆis he just saying this to try and see what weโll do? For me, at the time, Iโm sort of gambling everythingโฆIf this doesnโt work out, Iโm f**ked. Iโm done. But at the same point in time, itโs like, you know, when you meet the right person? You meet the right person.โ
