In a surprising turn of events, R-Truth made headlines last week after announcing his departure from WWE, only to shock fans with a surprise appearance at the 2025 WWE Money in the Bank premium live event, where he attacked John Cena in one of the night’s most unexpected moments.
Now, a new report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com confirms that Truth’s WWE exit was not part of a storyline, and the situation was, in fact, a real error by the company.
“They cut someone based on math and realized that they had upset not just the audience but more importantly, the entire realm of their locker room,” Johnson explained. “Many of whom privately made their feelings known as much as some did publicly. So, the company course corrected.”
While not every released talent will be reinstated, R-Truth’s status as a beloved locker room veteran made his situation unique. According to the report, the internal backlash—combined with fan reaction—led WWE to reverse the decision and bring Truth back into the fold. Johnson described it as a “ripple effect” that ultimately ended on a positive note.
WWE reportedly kept Truth’s MITB return under tight wraps. Though there were whispers of a surprise run-in backstage, Johnson noted that some within the company believed it would be rapper Travis Scott making a guest appearance instead.
The moment was a testament to WWE’s ability to still deliver jaw-dropping surprises—and to R-Truth’s enduring popularity and respect both among fans and within the company.
