AEW star Brian Cage has confirmed via Instagram that he recently underwent a full knee replacement, just eight weeks after surgery to repair a torn quad tendon. The dual procedures have sidelined the powerhouse at a time when major creative plans were on the horizon.
In a detailed post, Cage shared that he’s battled chronic knee pain for years, planning to delay surgery until after All In: Texas. However, when he suffered a quad tear earlier this year, Cage opted to address both injuries at once.
“I’ve been dealing with excessive knee pain for years and have been working through it with the intention of going under the knife after All In,” Cage wrote. “With the unfortunate setback of tearing my quad, I figured F it, let’s just get em both done. Not an easy or fun choice, but I’m gonna come back ripping heads off.”
Despite undergoing a full knee replacement just four days ago, the 41-year-old posted a video of himself back in the gym, already rehabbing. He credited WWE’s Ricochet for filming the session and ended the clip with a signature line:
“Love me, hate me, or somewhere in-between, you can’t deny I’m a f***ing machine!”
Cage’s injuries came at a pivotal time. He and partner Lance Archer were reportedly scheduled to challenge for the AEW World Tag Team Championships, then held by Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin, at AEW Dynasty on April 6. The program was set to kick off just days before the injury occurred.
With Cage out, Big Bill & Bryan Keith were inserted into the title picture instead.
