Backstage News On WWE Introducing New Titles, Idea For Roman Reigns Being Considered

WWE’s top champions have all received new title belts. Roman Reigns, the undisputed WWE Universal Champion, was recently presented with a single title belt, while Seth Rollins won the new WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Rhea Ripley surrendered the SmackDown Women’s Title in exchange for the new WWE Women’s World Title, while Asuka surrendered the RAW Women’s Title in exchange for the new WWE Women’s Title. WWE NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre will face WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler on June 23, but it’s unclear whether new women’s tag titles will be introduced. It has been suggested that the men’s tag titles will also be updated.

According to a new report from Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso, WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H wanted to freshen up all the titles and present a new look, which is why the new titles were introduced.

Reigns’ title supersedes Rollins’ title, especially when it comes to lineage. Paul Heyman wore the WWE and Universal Title belts on his shoulders when Reigns received his new belt on SmackDown two weeks ago. It will be interesting to see if Heyman continues to hold both titles while Reigns holds the new title, as this is something that has been discussed, according to sources.

Barrasso stated that there are reasons to keep the extra titles, primarily to further distinguish The Tribal Chief from the other champions. Following that, one of the belts represents WWE’s past, as it has been worn by WWE Hall of Famers such as Steve Austin, Pedro Morales, Bret Hart, and many others, while the other has its own significance as it has become more valuable on SmackDown than the world title was on RAW. Barrasso emphasized the significance of all that history, which is supposed to be carried over to Reigns’ new title.
