MVP Believes WWE’s “Brass Ring” Is Given Not Earned

Former WWE Superstar MVP has weighed in on one of WWE’s most debated philosophies — the idea of “grabbing the brass ring.”

During a recent appearance on the Marking Out podcast, MVP offered a candid take on how success is achieved in WWE. According to the veteran performer, the notion that any talent can reach out and seize an opportunity is misleading.

“There’s no reaching up and grabbing the brass ring. The brass ring is slipped onto your finger; they pick who they want to be that person,” MVP stated.

He pointed to Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson) as a rare example of a performer who forced WWE’s hand through sheer fan support.

“Lots of people have organically gotten themselves over and they weren’t picked by the empire to get over,” MVP explained. “Organically, he [Daniel Bryan] got himself over to the point that all of the fanbase said ‘we like this guy’ and they forced the office’s hand.”

MVP also discussed how WWE views its top champions, framing the title as more than just a prop—it’s a signal of corporate trust.

“Typically, the push comes from, you’re a talent that the office looks at and says, ‘this person has the characteristics that we like for our brand, and we want to make this person our brand ambassador.’ When they put the company title on you, what they’re saying is, ‘we are investing in you to be our brand ambassador.’”

MVP’s comments add to the ongoing discussion among fans and wrestlers about how much control talent truly has over their career trajectories within WWE.
