Zack Gibson and James Drake, formerly known as The Grizzled Young Veterans in WWE NXT, recently spoke with The Metro for an interview.
During the discussion, the tag-team duo spoke about their departure from WWE earlier this year.
Featured below are some of the highlights from the interview.
Zack Gibson on how it all came down to them being unhappy with how things were going: “In a nutshell, this is one of the big driving forces as to why we wanted to leave and get out because without going into too much, we just werenโt particularly happy with how things were going. It all felt a bit boring. Ultimately, you know, this is our job, but itโs also itโs our hobby, and itโs our life. So we want to be enjoying what weโre doing. โNow weโre back out in the wild west. It all feels exciting and fresh again, it feels a little bit like starting over, like youโve got a new lease on life.”
Gibson on how the objectives in WWE shifted and they no longer lined up with what they were trying to do: “When company objectives shifts, sometimes you find yourself not lining up with what it is that they want at that current time. Our decision to move on wasnโt necessarily like, โWe donโt like that company anymore!โ Itโs not a big middle finger to the company, the company is doing great business, itโs just we felt that as a product, we werenโt doing the best business.”
James Drake on how they toughed their contracts out because they didnโt want peopleโs perception of them to go down: “A lot of people have had that in the past, and theyโve just decided to stay at home. [But] it wouldnโt have been a good look for us, and it wouldnโt have been a good look for the company.”
