WWE NXT Review – July 11, 2023

Kicking off this week’s NXT with Finn Balor says that Daddy’s home in NXT and says that this is the house he built. He says he’s back to lay down some house rules with the rest of Judgment Day and introduces Mr Money In The Bank Damian Priest, Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley & Dominik Mysterio. Priest then calls for the NXT Universe to rise for them before calling NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams to the ring. He says the two of them invited them to NXT thinking they would be getting a divided Judgment Day but in reality they’re getting the version of themselves that runs WWE.

Mysterio looks to speak but Hayes & Williams interrupt and make their way down to the ring. Ripley expresses her outrage with them cutting off Mysterio but Hayes explains that they’re here for Balor. He says that while he built NXT himself & Williams now runs things around the Performance Center. Hayes says while Balor got the better of him on Raw, they’re in his arena.

Ripley calls Hayes’ comments arrogant, and Priest says while the 2 of them run things, Judgment Day isn’t staring back at them every Tuesday. Hayes them challenges Judgment Day to a match tonight but Balor cuts him off and warns him that if he comes after him he better not miss.

Tony D’Angelo was interviewed via Zoom by McKenzie Mitchell. D’Angelo said that he was at Stacks’s mercy tonight to get out of jail but said that he does not recognize him anymore and was not sure of the outcome tonight.

There was a video package of Gigi Dolin calling out Kiana James before demanding her to take her gloves off while showing footage of Kiana James doing graffiti & partying.

Tag Team Match
Chase U (Andre Chase & Duke Hudson) vs. Drew Gulak & Charlie Dempsey

Chase U waste no time going after Drew Gulak & Charlie Dempsey on the outside before both teams get in the ring and Hudson clotheslines Gulak to the outside. The bell rings and Dempsey lands a shoulder tackle. Chase sends Dempsey into the top turnbuckle face first then tags in Hudson.

Chase U double team on Dempsey but Dempsey makes it back to his corner and tags in Gulak. Gulak delivers a dropkick to Hudson before Dempsey plants him. Gulak then lands an elbow drop and follows it up with a forearm.

He whips Hudson into the corner but Hudson plants him and ascends to the middle rope then he pulls Gulak up to join him and delivers a massive body slam.

Chase tags in and is met with a right hand from Gulak. Dempsey tags in and delivers a suplex but Chase fires back with a headbutt and tags Hudson back in. Dempsey delivers a right hand to Chase’s spine then tags Gulak back in.

Gulak & Dempsey look to double team but Hudson plants them both with a double shoulder tackle. Chase then tags back in, and himself and Hudson deliver a series of forearms and an elbow as we go to a break.

After the break Dempsey has a shoulder submission cinched in on Hudson. Hudson makes his way to his feet to escape but Dempsey plants him with a suplex. Hudson then sends Dempsey crashing into the mat with a back body drop. Gulak tags in and gets planted with one of his own before Chase tags in and delivers a dropkick on the now legal Dempsey.

Dempsey & Chase go back & forth with right hands but Chase eventually gains the upper hand and lands a Russian leg sweep then he follows it up with the Chase U Stomps and ascends to the top rope & lands a crossbody and goes for a pin but Gulak breaks the fall.

He catches Chase with a German suplex before Dempsey does the same to him and goes for a pin. Chase kicks out as Thea Hail locks in a Kimura Lock on Gulak on the outside then back in the ring Hudson tags in and Chase U connects with Fratliner to get the win.

Winners: Chase U 

Bron Breakker cuts a promo on Ilja Dragunov. Breakker said that Dragunov was not on his radar until he got int he way but Breakker said that there won’t be enough referees to stop him from breaking Dragunov in half.

Von Wagner talks with Mr. Stone backstage saying that his action on Javier Bernal was a treated as a monster because of him having a titanium plate in the head. Wagner said that he felt like himself after powerbombing Bernal through the broadcast table saying that he was to thank for that.

Cora Jade vs. Kelani Jordan

Match starts off with a lock up then Cora Jade lands a back elbow before they go back & forth with submission holds then Jordan lands a pair of arm drags and a dropkick but Jade catapults her into the bottom rope then delivers a stomp off the ropes to Jordan’s spine and plants her face first. Jade ties Jordan up in the ropes and delivers a chop then follows it up with a shotgun dropkick.

Jade then delivers a boot to Jordan’s midsection but Jordan rolls her up but Jade kicks out and Jordan connects with a back elbow then delivers a kick to her midsection then Jade catches her with a forearm and a kick to her legs before planting her with a double arm DDT for the win.

Winner: Cora Jade

After the match Jade grabs her kendo stick and looks to hits Jordan with it but Dana Brooke fights her off and levels her. She looks to hit Jade with it but Jade rolls out of the ring before she can.

Ilja Dragunov cuts a promo on Bron Breakker, telling him that he would feel his wrath & fury. Dragunov said that he would prove he was the most violent man in NXT and make his way to the NXT Title.

There was a video recap highlighting the events of the NXT Underground match between Eddy Thorpe & Damon Kemp.

After that video Gable Stevenson & Eddy Thorpe were interviewed in the parking lot. Stevenson said that he did not know what was next for him but he is excited.

Many PC Talents watched NXT Underground backstage before Dijak confronted them. They said that NXT Underground made Eddy Thorpe the toughest guy out there to which Dijak responded by saying give me a break.

NXT Title #1 Contenders Match
Bron Breakker vs. Ilja Dragunov

Ilja Dragunov wastes no time as he charges at Bron Breakker but Breakker plants him and fires off shoulders on his midsection then delivers a right hand to his head and follows it up with a forearm.

He then plants him with a spinebuster and plants him before Dragunov fires back with a series of chops and a running knee then he ascends to the top rope and connects with a knee.

Breakker rains down right hands on Dragunov and looks to suplex him out of the ring. Dragunov reverses the move mid way over the top rope and they go tumbling out of the ring as we go to a break.

After the break Breakker & Dragunov go back & forth with right hands & chops before Dragunov eventually gains the upper hand with a boot and plants Breakker with a elbow strike then follows it up with a German suplex before Breakker lands one of his own but Dragunov hits Breakker with a 2nd one.

Breakker then ascends to the top and goes flying before Dragunov gets him up on his shoulders and delivers a Death Valley Driver that sends Breakker crashing into the bottom turnbuckle then ascends to the top rope and delivers a Coast 2 Coast then nails Torpedo Moskau then goes for a pin but Breakker manages to kick out.

Dragunov ascends to the top rope and looks to go flying but Breakker catches him mid air with a Spear and goes for a pin but Dragunov somehow kicks out and lands a powerbomb, then goes for a pin of his own. Breakker kicks out and lands a clothesline then looks for a Spear. Dragunov catches him with a knee and a 2nd Torpedo Moskau for the win.

Winner & #1 Contender To The NXT Title: Ilja Dragunov (Recommend)

We then head backstage to McKenzie Mitchell is with North American Champion Wes Lee. Mitchell asks Lee about his upcoming match with Mustafa Ali at The Great American Bash before Dominik Mysterio & Rhea Ripley walk in. Mysterio asks Lee if he’s the open challenge guy and accepts it. Lee says he hasn’t thrown out a challenge but he can make the match happen for later tonight. Mysterio tells him to make it for next week instead.

There was a vignette of Baron Corbin. Corbin drove across the road reminiscing about his career in WWE before being in a forest.

Non Title Match
Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton vs. Ivy Nile

Tiffany Stratton & Ivy Nile lock up to get this match started before Stratton lands a pair of shoulder tackles but Nile catches her in her tracks and plants her. Nile looks for an Ankle Lock but Stratton escapes.

She then looks for a hurricanrana but Stratton lands on her feet and sends Nile crashing onto the apron then lands a hip toss and Nile goes tumbling to the floor.

Stratton dumps Nile back in the ring and looks for a back handspring elbow but Nile ducks it and lands an enziguri then follows it up with a kick in the corner and looks for a running right hand but Stratton rolls out of the ring.

Nile pulls her back in and looks to lock in Diamond Chin Lock but Stratton escapes and sends her crashing into the corner before connecting with the rolling fireman’s carry follow by Prettiest Moonsault Ever for the win.

Winner: Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton

After the match Tiffany Stratton cuts a promo after the match to shout that she did not tap out but was stormed by chants from the crowd.

Thea Hail rants about Tiffany Stratton with Andre Chase & Duke Hudson. Hudson & Chase campaigned for Hail to have a rematch against Stratton.

Blair Davenport was interview backstage saying that she enjoyed beating up Roxanne Perez and that she would do it again.

Freedom Or Trial Match
Stacks vs. Joe Coffey

If Stacks wins Tony D’Angelo is free & The Family gets a NXT Tag Team Titles Match.

If Joe Coffey wins Tony D’Angelo must go to Trial.

Stacks & Joe Coffey lock up to get this match started then hey go back & forth with submission holds before Coffey lands a shoulder tackle then follows it up with a discus lariat and goes for a pin but Stacks kicks out. Coffey becomes enraged and says they had a deal but Stacks says he’s no snitch as we go to a break.

After the break Stacks fires off right hands on Coffey then Mark Coffey hops up on the apron allowing Joe to blindside Stacks before Stacks delivers an elbow and a back body drop before Mark slides in the ring and grabs the attention.

Stacks grabs his car jack and takes advantage & hits Coffey with it before he tosses it over to Wolfgang pulling an Eddie Guerrero so the referee sees this and ejects Wolfgang from ringside before Stacks lands a boot and Cement Shoes to get the win.

Winner: Stacks (Since Stacks won Tony D’Angelo is free & The Family gets a NXT Tag Team Titles Match)

Backstage The Schism confronts Ivy Nile & Ava says that there was always room for more members.

Yulisa Leon & Valentina Feroz made fun of Noam Dar before they were confronted by Los Lotharios. Leon ran down on Los Lotharios before Heritage Cup Champion Nathan Frazer & Dragon Lee confronted them.

Tag Team Match
NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams vs. Judgement Day (Mr Money In The Bank Damian Priest & Finn Balor)

Match starts off with Damian Priest & Trick Williams lock up before Williams looks for a shoulder tackle but Priest blocks it and fires off stomps on Williams in the corner then he whips him into the opposite corner and tags in Finn Balor. Balor wears Williams down then tags in Priest back in.

Priest lands a Broken Arrow and goes for a pin but Williams kicks out then Balor tags back in and fires off shoulders on Williams’ midsection then executes a series of chops. He whips Williams into the corner but Williams rebounds with a clothesline and tags in Carmelo Hayes.

Williams then lands a dropkick and assists Hayes in leveling an interfering Priest as we go to a commercial break.

After the break Priest tags in and delivers a flying back elbow to Hayes. Balor tags in and delivers a backbreaker before Priest becomes legal once more and delivers a leg drop to Hayes as Balor holds him in place. Priest cinches in a shoulder submission but Hayes escapes and executes a jawbreaker.

Williams tags in and rains down right hands on Priest then follows it up with a dropkick and a knee to his jaw then delivers a flapjack and a twisting neckbreaker then lands a kick on Priest’s head but Priest levels him with a clothesline.

Balor & Hayes tag in and Hayes delivers an atomic drop then follows it up with a snapmare and a superkick but Balor fires back with a Sling Blade and a shotgun dropkick into the corner. He ascends to the top and looks for the Coup De Grâce but Hayes rolls out of the way and delivers a springboard crossbody.

Priest tags in and sets up for South Of Heaven but Hayes counters into a Stunner then Priest levels Hayes with a roundhouse kick before planting him and going for a pin. Williams breaks the fall and Priest sends him crashing on top of the announce table with a Razor’s Edge before sliding back in the ring where Hayes meets him with a Codebreaker.

Dominik Mysterio hops up on the apron and Hayes levels him. Ripley then orders Mysterio to grab a chair but the referee confiscates it from him & while he’s distracted Ripley takes advantage and throws Priest his Money In The Bank briefcase to hit Hayes with. Ilja Dragunov runs down and grabs it from Priest’s hands.

Hayes looks to blindside him but Priest sends Hayes crashing into Dragunov before landing South Of Heaven before Balor tags in and delivers Coup De Grâce for the win.

Winners: Judgement Day

After the match a frustrated Hayes lets Dragunov know how he feels to close out this week’s NXT.
