On the What Do You Wanna Talk About? podcast, Kevin Owens sat down with Cody Rhodes and opened up about his changing perception of The Miz, offering high praise for the veteran WWE star’s longevity, versatility, and underrated in-ring ability.
Owens admitted that during his early days on the independent circuit, he questioned The Miz’s success in WWE. But after working with him, his perspective completely changed.
“If there is one guy that doesn’t get enough credit, it’s him. Even me. I’ll fully admit this, and I think I told Mike before,” Owens said. “I watched WWE from the outside looking in as an independent wrestler, hoping to get to WWE. I’d see Miz and I’d go, ‘How the f*** is this guy main eventing WrestleMania? How the f*** is this guy always in the top angles?’ I know why once I worked with him once. That’s why.”
Owens continued by emphasizing Miz’s ability to adapt and deliver no matter the circumstances.
“We talk about making everything work. He is the epitome of that. He’ll say yes to anything, he’ll make it work, he’ll do it good. He has amazing matches.”
Citing a standout match between The Miz and GUNTHER in Chicago, Owens pointed out how the bout exceeded expectations and showcased Miz’s often-overlooked in-ring prowess.
“You look at Gunther and you look at Miz… Miz is probably bottom of the list [of expected dream opponents]. They killed it. Killed it. That’s true with almost everyone. Miz can do that with anybody. He does not get enough credit.”
The former WWE Champion’s words add to a growing chorus of voices acknowledging The Miz’s enduring value to the company, nearly two decades into his WWE career.
