The WWE World Heavyweight Championship #1 Contender’s Tournament is currently underway to determine the next challenger for Roman Reigns, known as “The OTC,” for his World Championship. The final four competitors are Penta, AAA World Cruiserweight Champion Rey Fenix, AAA’s La Parka, and Dragon Lee.
This follows Fenix’s victory over El Fiscal and Lee’s win against El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. in the last two first-round matches that took place on Monday Night RAW. These wins completed the opening round, while Penta and La Parka had already advanced in the previous week’s episode.
According to Dave Meltzer on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE plans to hold the tournament final on an upcoming episode of RAW. This decision rules out TripleMania 34 as the venue for the deciding match. Meltzer also mentioned that a potential final match between Penta and Fenix could be particularly intriguing, noting that the brothers work very well together.
The semifinals are scheduled for the August 24th episode of RAW in Ottawa, where Penta will face La Parka and Fenix will take on Dragon Lee. Additionally, Roman Reigns is set to compete in his first RAW match in nearly two years, defending his title in Mexico City on September 14th.
