During Friday’s episode of WWE SmackDown, it was announced that the AAA World Tag Team Champions, the War Raiders (Erik and Ivar), will defend their title against Wepa Up (Damian Priest and R-Truth) on the September 11th episode of the show. This match is the first confirmed for the event, which will take place at Arena Mexico in Mexico City and will air live on USA Network in the U.S. and on Netflix internationally.
The match was made official during a backstage segment where R-Truth and Priest were having a conversation. Priest indicated that it was time for them to move on from their tag team since they were no longer champions together and that he wanted to focus on pursuing singles gold. As they talked, the War Raiders appeared, and Truth encouraged them to put their titles on the line against him and Priest.
The War Raiders have held the AAA World Tag Team Championships for 91 days, having won them from Pagano and Psycho Clown at AAA Noche de Los Grandes on May 30th. They have challenged for the WWE Tag Team Championship twice over the last month while Priest and Truth held the titles, including during the August 14th episode when The MFTs won the titles in a triple threat match.
