One of the most talked-about WrestleMania moments in recent memory came not from a jaw-dropping move or surprise return—but from a selfie. Now, Drew McIntyre has peeled back the curtain on how his viral “Still Bored at Work” moment during WrestleMania 40 came together.

Appearing on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast, McIntyre shared the behind-the-scenes origin of the now-iconic moment, which saw him take a selfie in the middle of his World Heavyweight Championship match against Seth Rollins—with a battered Rollins in the background.

“Nobody Knew I Was Going to Do It”

According to McIntyre, the idea was born just hours before the show. “Nobody knew I was going to do it… it came about that day,” McIntyre said. “My buddy and I were in the gym… and I was just like, ‘Man, like a match… tweeted, like, during a match, they filmed yourself and then posted it… that was cool.’ And I was like, ‘Someone did it in the match? Imagine, was it Mania?’”

A Moment That Had to Be Earned

Despite the spontaneity, McIntyre emphasized that the stunt would only happen if the moment felt natural and didn’t disrupt the match’s integrity. “I’ll never sacrifice the match, the integrity of the match, or my opponent, make them look silly if it doesn’t work. But we’ll have a plan.”

That plan came together after McIntyre suplexed Rollins on the floor and noticed Rollins selling his injuries. “He’s got the bad knees going into that match, the bad back, and he’s selling on the floor. And that’s when it’s time. My brother was right there. ‘Give me the phone.’ We did it right there on the fly. They exploded.”

“The Numbers Were Just Unbelievable”

McIntyre had the tweet saved in drafts, and once the moment hit, he handed off the phone to his friend to post it immediately. The post blew up almost instantly. “The numbers were just unbelievable,” he said. “I was getting directly from X, I guess… of the past 60 days when it was posted, in the first hour, it was the most liked… second most liked post in 60 days on X. Of everything.”

The image of McIntyre grinning with Rollins down behind him lit up social media and became a defining moment of WrestleMania 40.

The Sequel and the Shirt

McIntyre repeated the taunt at WrestleMania 41, this time taking a selfie with Damian Priest in the background. The move, now dubbed his “Still Bored at Work” signature, has since become part of his character.

“It took a while to get it,” McIntyre said of the eventual t-shirt release. “I had to do it two years in a row at WrestleMania… Can I get the t-shirt now? Take a few more months. We finally got it.”

The shirt has since become a top seller, showing how one spontaneous idea turned into a viral sensation—and a new signature for The Scottish Warrior.
