Top TNA Wrestling star Joe Hendry recently appeared on Insight With Chris Van Vliet, where he talked about a number of topics including his match with WWE and TNA Hall of Famer Kurt Angle in WCPW back in 2016.

Hendry said, โ€œI look back at this and Iโ€™m like, โ€˜How on earth did I have the balls to pull this off?โ€™ A fan asked me, โ€˜Whatโ€™s your dream match?โ€™ And I thought and I answered it, saying, well, just like a one-off match and I went Kurt Angle and I tagged him thinking nothing of it. Kurt Angle DMโ€™d me, in 2015. He says, โ€˜Listen, Iโ€™ve heard your name, Iโ€™ve seen a couple things,โ€™ โ€™cause I think at that point Iโ€™d done like my first like viral entrance. I came to the ring to โ€˜Wrecking Ballโ€™ but I came to the ring in a zorb as Henry Ball. And so Kurt said, โ€˜I know who you are and youโ€™re not ready yet. But maybe one day youโ€™ll get the match,โ€™ and I was like, โ€˜Wow!’โ€

On getting the match booked:

โ€œI walk in the [WhatCulture] boardroom and I says, โ€˜Thanks for meeting [me]. You guys tried to get Kurt Angle, didnโ€™t you?โ€™ And they went โ€” and Iโ€™m just a trainee at this point and they went โ€” โ€˜Yeah, yeah.โ€™ And I went, โ€˜What did he say?โ€™ and knowing what he said and they went, โ€˜Oh, he said no.โ€™ And I went, โ€˜I can get you Kurt Angle,โ€™ and I says, โ€˜But if I get him, I need both of your word that I wrestle him,โ€™ and I says, โ€˜And Iโ€™m top guy after that.โ€™ And Iโ€™m a trainee at the time and they went, โ€˜You can really get Kurt Angle?โ€™ I was like, โ€˜Those are the termsโ€™ and they were like, โ€˜Alright.โ€™ They shook my hand.โ€

On coming up with his character in TNA:

โ€œBefore TNA, I had the gimmick, but not the character. I had custom entrance songs that people enjoyed. Whereas, the character element of who Joe Hendry is on television, that came to be in TNA.โ€

On who helped him find his character:

โ€œIt really has taken an army of people to get me to this point, and Iโ€™ll shout out many people, but one person Iโ€™m going to shout out first is Eric Young. A few weeks before I got to TNA, me and Eric Young first met on a show in Germany โ€ฆ He helped me understand how I should approach this. So thatโ€™s where it started, and then TNA management have worked very hands-on with me. Itโ€™s just been an incredible learning experience.โ€
