It appears that Gable Steveson is fully committed to WWE, and his amateur wrestling days are over.
Gable aimed to return to amateur wrestling and compete at the 2024 Olympics. He has not appeared on television since last summer, though he has worked a few live events in NXT. His only television match was a no-contest against Baron Corbin at an NXT PLE last year.
Gable was brought in last week to work a dark match at a SmackDown event, and he is scheduled to do more in coming weeks.
Brandon Eggum, the University of Minnesota coach, updated Steveson’s status, stating that he will not compete for the team this season as he shifts his focus to WWE.
“Also, a quick update on Gable Stevenson. Unfortunately, he will be unable to compete for us this season. He is an excellent competitor. He’s always wanted to compete for the University of Minnesota. However, the WWE would prefer that he remain solely focused on his professional wrestling career at this time. So when he’s not at the WWE Performance Center in Florida, he’s up here in our realm working with our heavyweights, which is great. We cannot thank him enough for his contributions to our program. We’ve enjoyed following him and watching him compete on the mats. He’s amazing, and we’re excited to watch him in his WWE career, so thank you, Gable Steveson, from our program and all of the Gopher fans across the country and around the world, and we look forward to watching you in your future career here.”
